Day 2 - Confidence building

Sunday

Today, as a reward for the 6.00 am start, Chateau Jasper presented the girls and boys with delicious crispy bacon and - for vegetarians and none alike - some mouth-watering scrambled eggs with spring onions.

QM students got onto the coaches at an impressive pace, and on the way to Marmot Basin the weather proved glorious. In the clear early morning light, we were treated to the sight of three elks: one white, two fawn coloured. This was a foretaste of the magnificent sights mother nature would present throughout the day, from sun dogs (a rare, round rainbow phenomenon) to shimmering ice crystals. Today was certainly the coldest day of this year's magnificent tour: temperatures settled at minus 25 degrees Celsius around midday at the mountain peak.

The day's skiing was exhilarating, as ski tutees gained masses of confidence and took on an array of challenges.

This evening, on the way to ice skating at the local rink - where a frantic girls' ice hockey final was taking place! - students got to see a beautiful antlered elk up-close-and-personal sniffing at a hedge.
An exhilarating day all round!
