Introduction

Alpine sports in particular skiing has been a great tradition at Queen Mary's High School for over two decades. Each year our Snow Patrol aim to go to a different resort somewhere in the northern hemisphere. It is a fact that somewhere right now it is snowing and when it falls on the blemishes of this planet it creates a playground that we can slide down on.

The late Warren Miller, a ski film director of over 60 years, gave us many quotes. He has inspired many generations of skier and rider. Here are a few that have inspired me over the years; “A pair of skis are the ultimate transformation to freedom.”

This is also so true... “If I ask anybody who learned to ski after the age of five, they can remember their first day of skiing, what the weather was like, who they went with, what they had for lunch. I believe that’s because that first day on skis was the first day of total freedom in their life.” 

This one was most certainly true for me as a year nine student all of those years ago, “Once you take your first ride up a lift your life will be changed forever.”  ever since then I have looked to get back on a pair of skis or snowboard and have fun. It is the aim of the QM Snow Patrol to provide the same experiences for our future generations of skiers and riders. So remember what Warren always said at the end of his movies...

“If you don’t do it this year, you will be one year older when you do.”
