Day 4 - Powder Day!

We have powder...

A view from the Sugarloaf Mountain Hotel (11.34 BST, 6.34 EDT)
:-)

The loaf at the end of todays fun.

What a fabulous day! The groups started bright and early with breakfast in the Pine room at 7.30am prompt. Everyone was pleased to see the cloud breaking and some fresh snow on the mountain. The starting temperatures this morning were a bit of a contrast, -8 degrees Celsius!

All groups progressed well and groups 3 and 4 were joined for the morning session. Milky and Kris made a few runs on the green pistes a challenge for everyone. the groups did human slalom, flew like birds, paired whirly birds, carving skills, side slipping and one footed exercises.

The afternoon session was even better we had good snow and bluebird. Group 2 made it up to the top of the super quad this afternoon. The ride itself must have been brilliant for them. Milky's lot found as much powder as possible and also took to the glades!

 Après Ski

After a long day's skiing, several of the students relaxed in the huge hot tub overlooking Sugarloaf.

After our evening meal, Naomi was presented with a huge Sugarloaf cake before students watched some movies American style with soda and cookies.

Naomi's birthday cake!

Splat nomination videos:-

Splat's hat today went to our rep Andy for his stretcher ride off the mountain for his 'broken binding' followed by a fall in the trees which no one saw.

Dude hat went to Luke and Naomi for their dancing on snow and embrace.

Shirt of greatness was awarded to Mr Curry for his supporting of an inferior team.

Quotes of the day:

As Paramveer went towards the trees, Kris the instructor shouted "George! Retreat from the jungle!"

Milky: Have you seen the sleeping Indian? (Talking about the mountain formation)
Ben: What Paramveer?

Day 3 - Pure sugar - at the loaf

Please note, a few updates have been added to yesterday's post.

QM Snowpatrol arrive at Sugarloaf

Off to lessons... in the rain :-(

When I thought about a title for day 3 pure sugar was what I had in mind for the snow. How wrong could I be, we should have called it Wet and wild and a bit milky!

All the groups had new instructors, they were all super enthusiastic and did their best to motivate a tired set of students who were getting rained on. Group 4's instructors name is Sir Milky, he is full on about skiing and has really pushed the group to do new things from the terrain park to the bumps, Dom even fell doing them, and went on a detour to Moose alley mainly for kids, but Courteney (Jane) enjoyed looking for bears and more tree hugging.

Today was very challenging for all groups as the wind and rain persisted throughout the 2 lessons. We all got to our new ski lockers soaking wet. The lockers were a real challenge as they were high school lockers with a safe type lock. This really did cause a lot of problems. After a few tips we finally got our skis away so that we could get dried out for our first evening at the loaf.

Below is a selection of photos and video from the day:

Splat hat went today to Mr. Hinks for his fall whilst skiing with group 1. As I said the snow was very challenging! It was most amusing though! When I turned around to look up, I saw a collection on mobile phones erect in the air. Just like Meerkats when they stand up on their hind legs.

Dude went to Ben for his never give up skiing even when his 'pants' came down exposing his angry bird underwear!

Day 2 - hot hot hot

Ski Day 2

Everyone awoke this morning to broken cloud and some lovely spring sunshine. You could tell it was going to be a hot one.

The QM Snowpatrol had breakfast at the south ridge Cafeteria again today. This time it was a little later! The students were treated to crispy bacon, potato bits, American waffles, toast, hot fresh muffins, cereals and all the lovely American big beverages. :-)

Lessons began promptly at 9.00 am and 12.00 midday. The temperatures were tropically hot by the second session, so many students shed their outer top layers, to just ski in thermal tops.

Everyone progressed nicely; Jay attempted not to fall today by betting with Mr. Hill that he wouldn't fall. The stake, I believe was a soft drink. Unfortunately Jay lost the bet in both sessions. 'George' had a good day; however. group 4 may have found a 'Jane' in the form of Courteney! Pictures and video to follow.

Après ski

Several students enjoyed a relaxing swim. Mr. Hinks was practically drowned by everyone one and Paramveer attempted many forward rolls in the water. Everyone was quite amused by his attempts.

ski to the pool!

Hot tub

Tonight we all went out to an adventure centre where the QM ski patrol had fun with laser tag, arcade games, pool and a spot of rock climbing.

Andy where is your rope!

Today was our final day at Sunday River, we will be have breakfast tomorrow at 6.30 am local time before we set off for the loaf.

Splat hat went to Ellie for her most falls in a 100m run.

Dude went to Izzy for her great skiing and never give up attitude.
