Day 3 - new conditions on every run

Guten morgen

Record efficiencies this morning by the students on this years SnowPatrol. Amazing, we were at the top of the mountain at 09:00 ready and waiting for our great instructors, Tom, Amon and Dan.

Today Tom's group were going to travel over to Flachau and use the new G Link cable car. Amon's group were going to take the reds and a speed gun run in at Alpendorf and Dan's group had the aim of mastering the blue and chairlift before we go to Zauchensee on day four.

Ski Day 2 - Everyone makes the chair

Breakfast and packed lunches were done in record time today. Everyone was on the coach nice and early. The students worked themselves through the lift line nicely and we were at the top by 09:15. top class!

Morning session

Group 1 continued to develop their 'pizza' skills to ensure they could control their speed and turns. Plenty of crashes but plenty of smiles and determination seen.

Group 2 skied all the way over to Alpendorf, this great mileage has really helped them improve their confidence and skill set. Well done to those for who this is their first time in a ski resort!

Group 3 some steady blues to warm up followed by lots of nice cruiser reds. As a real treat they took the Sonntagskogelbahn 3 chair and from this chair the group removed their skis and hiked 200m up to the top of Sonntagskogel mountain peak at 1850m. From there they could see the tallest mountain in the area, Hollwand 2287m, and then had a great snowball fight. Following this they slid down to restart the ski session.

Afternoon session

Group 1 all did their first blue run (Whoop Whoop) a couple of wobbles and worries that 'it looked too steep'; however, perseverance from all of the students and staff! Paid off and they all successfully made it down the blue to the chairlift. Generally speaking for a first chair ride, it all went very slick and smooth. That was until Shaan accompanied Avani on the 6 chair. She'll claim that it was Avani's fault for the chaos that resulted in Avani falling; however, we have consulted with our VAR and we now know that this outcome is not to be blamed on Avani. Result Shaan is the SPLAT of day 2...

Group 2 - info and pics to follow

Group 3 Headed off to Alpendorf for their session covering lots of red and blue terrain. Everyone returned buzzing about their days skiing.

The condition first thing were simply perfect. Great corduroy and cool temperatures. as the day went on the temperatures rose and the pistes became a challenge with many moguls being formed. Tiring skiing for everyone but once again all were happy and content.

Evening activities

After a typical Austrian feast of Schnitzel and boiled potatoes the QM Snowpatrol headed off to the outdoor ice rink. Lots of fun had by everyone. Plenty of falls and screams, Mrs. Rochfort! The highlight of the evening was the rematch for the longest ice slide. Mrs. Rochfort attempted foul play at the start which was clearly caught on camera followed by an astonishing attempt to catch up with the winner... Mr. Hinks! LOL  #epicfail

Day 3 SPLAT winner = Shaan

Day 3 Dude winner = Jorja

Day 3 Jinx winner = Mrs. Rochfort

Ski Day 1 - Tika Taka Tika Taka

Let's go ski

Students were promptly down to breakfast for 07:30 and fueled themselves for the mornings ski lessons. Having made up the packed lunches we all set off for the slopes. The two minute ride down the slopes to the gondola was swift... unlike the queue for the lift!

I think a few of us got the layering system a little wrong! We even had double thermal leggings! Everyone will have learnt their lesson for tomorrow!

Having reached the top of the Grafenbergbahn gondola we groups off into our 3 ski groups. We have Tom with our more experience group, Amon with our early intermediates and Dan with our beginners. All have done a great job today.

Tom with his group. They will count to 12 in German by the end of the week! and...

Having made a few adjustments and some refreshments the groups set off again to explore the mountain.

You know what Warren Miller said..."Once you take your first ride up a lift your life will be changed forever"

Evening entertainment

After another excellent meal, really nice chicken and roasted veg plus chips and doughnuts and fruit  for pudding, both schools met up for a quiz run by Lucy our excellent PGL representative. It was great to see the QMHS students and CCHS students mixing well and competing as mixed groups. we also awarded two splat hats, the Jinx and dude hats too. Some great reenactments, well done Bobby and Freya.

CCHS Splat = Freya
QMHS Splat = Prabjot

CCHS - The Jinx = Ryan - thanks Alex

All go... Journey to Snow Space Salzburger Sportwelt

The day has finally arrived. Hopefully the last bits of packing are currently happening and all students and staff will arrive at school later today well rested for our big journey. The conditions still keep improving in Wagrain. It is currently snowing, so we are sure to have a nice fresh base of snow when we start skiing this Sunday.

Let's hope we get lots of days like this:

And we're off

Everyone arrived promptly, coaches were early and we set off.

Unfortunately the Friday evening traffic was against us and the volume of traffic going through Dover meant we got the late ferry. We are all ready for some sleep now. 02.30 CET. Breakfast in Germany is a possibility.

It is currently snowing in the SnowSpace region and the temperatures are remaining below zero. Let's hope that when we start skiing on Sunday we just have beautiful pistes and blue skies to enjoy... and a little bit of POWDER for Mr. Hinks :-)

Watch a local FIS World Cup winner, multiple times, and Olympic Gold medalist, several times, ski our resort. His home town is Flachau. Some of you will get to ski there I am sure.

Snow and Hoodies

Time to get excited...

Student have now received all of the final information for our trip to Wagrain, Austria. Hoodies are in and we are all really impressed with the hoodies. Great graphics and brilliant quality.

It is currently snowing and the temperatures are below zero in SnowSpace arena! Which will hopefully give us an excellent base to ski on, under bluebird conditions, next week. :-)

Hoodies

Club & Corporate Wear have provided our fabulous trip hoodies this year. The colour, print, embroidery and quality is fantastic. We would recommend them to anyone looking for personalisation items for their trip.
